They've got Brad and Joe on board.
They're not rebooting, they're continuing but trying to make it approachable for new fans.
How the fuck are they going to pull this off?
The issues
Okay so there's some problems here. Stargate has, let's be honest, a pretty serious issue with race. Like the fundamental dynamics of Stargate SG-11 are that the American military go where they weren't invited and liberate the downtrodden brown masses from their silly fake religion and middle-eastern themed rulers.2
You cannot be doing this in 2025. Like, we all recognise that.
Where are we at?
Okay so good news is many parts of the show that wouldn't age well are pretty much done by the time the series ends.
The Goa'uld are gone leaving only ancient Egyptian themed spaceships behind.
Ascension is largely severed from the Buddhist monk aesthetic by the time Daniel gives up his giving up of corporal form so he can kill the devil with a handgun.
So we're all clear? Unproblematic US Airforce propaganda for the entire family to enjoy?
Fuck, dude, who knows
If I were them I'd keep as far away from the greater Stargate universe as possible. We don't need new fans asking about the Furlings and questioning why the air force doesn't use the infinite reality mirror in their basement more efficiently. We do not need anybody young enough not to remember a time before WiFi asking who Lord Yu is. That shit did not age well.
But in all truth?
I honestly couldn't give a shit what they do here I'm so excited I'm so excited stargate is back it's back it's back it's back it's back it's back I don't even have an end to this post I'm just frothing at the mouth there's going to be new Stargate there's going to be a new Stargate and a team going through it into the universe fuck we're probably going to get to see proper aliens more often we're going to learn more about the ancients I'm so excited I cannot wait to have my heart and spirits crushed underfoot by a show with nothing to say and no identifiable spirit.3 Fuck we're so back it's so over we're so back it's so over we're so ba-
I'm breaking off seasons 9 and 10 here as their own show called Stargate Command where the main bad guys were evil space Christians. And Atlantis gets a pass because their bad guys were vampire rave goths. And Universe's primary antagonist was the long shadow of the Battlestar Galactica reboot. We're talking about SG-1 here because it's the best one and we all know it↩
For balance, Judge did an amazing job at advocating for the Free Jaffa Nation during writing in the later seasons and even pitched a show about them in more recent years with the idea that it would be exploring similar themes to Black Panther↩
Although I will say the league of their own show was genuinely good. I didn't like the new star treks and have very complicated feelings about the new scream movies so yknow we're hit and miss on recent reboots of things I love↩
